On the 2nd of August 2019 for BOL all roads lead to Lephepe where the Company donated printers, school shoes and other goodies to the local primary school. Lephepe village is in Kweneng District, approximately one hundred and eighty kilometres (180km) from Gaborone.

This was the inaugural outreach activity between the school and Botswana Oil Limited since the adoption of the school last year. As part of the adoption, BOL and the school management identified initiatives aimed at improving the school’s performance holistically. From this, a plan of action for the implementation of the identified initiatives was developed. Top on the list was the acquisition of shoes, a printer with copy, scan and staple function and the surfacing of netball, volleyball and tennis courts.

In his address, BOL Ag. CEO Mr. Meshack Tshekedi highlighted that education is important for success, emphasising the importance of providing a conducive learning environment for children to enhance their performance. He further indicated that BOL is committed to supporting educational development, in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility Policy.

BOL donated sixty (60) pairs of school shoes, two printers, tonners, netball balls, volleyball balls, goal posts and netball baskets. Ground-breaking for the surfacing of the netball and volleyball courts was done on the day.
Lephepe Primary School Head, Ms. Betty Moamogwe expressed gratitude for BOL’s gesture to partner with them in the development of the pupils’ education. She indicated that when she joined the school in 2017,  the Primary School Leaving Results were not satisfactory and that the school performance is gradually improving even though the results remain below the national target of eighty percent (80%).

The Director of Education in the Kweneng Region, Mr. Benson Rauwe thanked Botswana Oil employees and Management for their commitment to school and the efforts to improve the pupils’ education. In a demonstration that they live the BOL values, BOL employees donated the school shoes. Over and above their individual contributions together with other employees, Senior Management donated P700.00 towards the purchase of school shoes.

The day closed with a feast of food prepared by BOL staff together with the Teacher Parent Association members.
